Simulating a wrong oracle_home environment but getting a SQLplus error.

hi guys,

if you guys remember, i been asking about oracle_home and oracle_sid.. in the last few threads.

today i successfuly install 2 oracle database 9i and 10g.

now i wanna simulate oracle_home + sid = memory of instance. (shared realm not avaiable error)

so i explicity set an oracle_home environment variable in the system.

so that i would keep using 10g oracle_home value to connect to the 9i instance. (which would fail)

however , i cannot seem to get sqlplus started

i get this error msg

Error 6 initialiing SQLPLUS

please make sure your mb1.lang is available

and your oracle_home is setup.

I have my oracle_home variable pointing to a correct oracle_home directly, i dont know why i cant open my sqlplus, 

anyone has any idea ?

This are my settings

ORACLE_HOME = c:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db1

hi all,

i found error while i am going to export backup of database as below

first time i got this error

ORA-24324 service handle not initialized

second time

EXP-00008: ORACLE error 3113 encountered

ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel

EXP-00056: ORACLE error 1403 encountered

ORA-01403: no data found

EXP-00000: Export terminated unsuccessfully

what shuold i do in this case.

Hi All,

  I have an environment where by using oracle 9i MV to replicate data from the 4 production databases to one HDB database as shown following:

Production DB              HDB 

  DB1

    emp ---->

    (mv log)

  DB2 

    emp ---->              emp(view)

     (mv log)              db1_emp(mv) 

  DB3                      union all

    emp ---->              db2_emp(mv)

     (mv log)              union all

  DB4                      db3_emp(mv)

    emp ---->              union all

     (mv log)              db4_emp(mv)

In the HDB emp, the view will be use for reporting purposes.MV will replicate from source to destination thru MV groups refresh using Unix cronjob.

I am not sure someone had created such kind of environment at ur workplace or client before. If yes, kindly please do share what are the issues arised. 

Personally I have issues of full table scan when select the views although the mv already have indexes created.

Any comments also welcome to post in about the architect...

GETTING ALERT IN OEM AS 

Hi 

We are getting an alert from Oracle 10g OEM stating 

"2 SEGMENTS IN AV49H1TS TABLESPACE UNABLE TO EXTEND".

Enough space is available in the tablespace. 

This tablespace is dictionary managed and segment space management is manual.

Request to give valuable inputs ingetting this alert resolved.

I understand that RECO process is useful as it 

"Recovers failed transactions that are distributed across multiple databases when using Oracle's distributed database feature."

I am not using distributed database feature

My questions.

1. Can we stop this process

2. If NO , why?

3. If yes, How?

Dear i m trying to create new db with DBCA bt while i fired the DBCA. i faced the following prob.

/oracle/jre/1.1.8/bin/../lib/i686/green_threads/libzip.so: symbol errno, version GLIBC_2.0 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference (libzip.so)

Unable to initialize threads: cannot find class java/lang/Thread

Could not create Java VM

hi i am trying out an example on sql loader on fix record format at

however after loading the data 

001,   cd, 0002,fghi,

00003,lmn,

1, "pqrs",

0005,uvwx,

at the 5th row in my table

its shows 

1st row) 001, cd

2nd row) 0002,fghi

3rd row) 00003,lmn

4th row) 1,pqrs

5th row) null, 0005

i dont understand since every record in the example.dat is of 11 byte length, why at the last row, it has become null,0005

where has the uvwx gone to ?

any insights?

if that is true, then 32K/1 byte would be about 400 characters.

I 'm work on oracle database 10R2 server with Western European character set. We now want to include polish character to suit a new customer. Inorder to keep our wester eurpean languages (English, danish, swedish etc) and the new polish, I recreate the database server with UTF8 characterset and change the window webserver client to Unicode UTF8 but I am unable to retrieve some polish characters such as ( ą ć ę ł ń ś ż ź) as they are display differently from the original characters.

If the know the best character set/how to configure the database to support both western european (not only english) and polish character sets please share your view.

 Dear All Hi!

  I need your suggestion on Db parameters,say for example if there is 12GB RAM and 3 cpus  of 1.5Ghz and  expecting 8000 to 10000 concurrent sessions than what should be the size of SGA,and the process parameter or any other factors to be considered before opening to users. Nice of you all for sharing the knowledge.

How to stop user viewing PUBLIC,SYS and SYSTEM objects?

I created a User John and granted CREATE SESSION privilege only. When I connected to John and ran query

SQL> select owner,object_name from all_objects;

I am getting all objects of PUBLIC,SYS,SYSTEM.

How to stop John viewing those objects?

I am getting this error during import..

ORA-1652: unable to extend temp segment by 128 in tablespace during import

i have resized my current temporary tablespace size 2gb to 3gb .

i wanna know if my import is still running or has it aborted.

the DB tier must be RAC configured integrated with SAN box.IS it possible?

Node-1 Apps TIER

Node-2 DB Tier

Another Node-3 to fail over from Node-2 in case

of failure occurs on Node-2

can i go ahead with this basic setup?

hi,

I am running sql trace on session level on sqlplus and running a procedure. I am not able to get the sql plan for all the queries. esp application queries were not have the plan. Am i missing something?

i gave simple, "alter session set sql_trace=true;" .

The below information I am getting for oracle internal sqls, not for the application code.

Will the error will affect the data?

Hi ,

I took a export of one schema and import it to other schema. user complains that some of the data has been not tranferred from source schema to target schema.

When i check the import log file.

IMP-00019: row rejected due to ORACLE error 2291

IMP-00003: ORACLE error 2291 encountered

ORA-02291: integrity constraint (PVW_DEV_OWNER.REL_139) violated - parent key not found

I found the error.

could you please tell me if i am getting this error, that means that data will not get imported to the target schema?

Has anyone ever encountered a db crash related to the ORA-30036 error.

This happened to our production db last week.

The alert log showed the following

Failure to extend rollback segment because of 30036 condition

Failure to extend rollback segment because of 30036 condition

Shutting down instance (abort)

I had a long running job - maybe over 1hr that was in the midst of doing split partition indexes when the db went down.

Oracle Support has yet to come back with an answer.

may i know how does you guys organise ur installation if you want a 9i and 10g on the same system using OFA standards.

i am thinking of

c:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db1

c:\oracle\product\9.2.0\db2

am i having 2 oracle_base now ? 

is this the correct way to implement the oracle_home in the OFA standards ?

is there anything i should look out for ?

Hi   

Whe have 2 sets of  2 Node RAC databases and  Advanced replication between them. Now we want to add anothere 2 Masters for the  existing group. 

I appreciate if any one can clarify my doubts.

1.  Will there be any performance issues as we add more msters to the group.

2.  Is there any limit on the number of Masters.

3.  Can  a Master definition site be a Master to another Master Definition site.

4.  Will there be any over head with respect to replication if some of the replication objects have 10mb size of BLOB files.
