Message: Hi Omar,

With a little effort you get a lot of info from the internet (yes: Google around). And on this there is a lot of information too. But in short (you may discover details your self ;-).

- Save Excel in CSV
- Upload it in Oracle as External table or with SQL*Loader.

JB

Message: Hi

1.First bold your headings in excel file.

2.then install import and export data utility of SQL server, u can also find this utility in MS Office CD (MSDE) Microsoft Data Engine.

3. Make an ODBC connection for Oracle

4. run the utility and import excel file in oracle table directly.

Message: 1) First make a small script file x.sql as below

insert into table-1 values (&1, &2, &3,.. &n)
/
commit;

2) Add a number column in your excell worksheet and put a uniform value @x in all your rows

3) create a csv file of this excell w/s with spaces

4) The file content will look like this

@x v1 v2 v3 v4 v5 ... vn

5) execute this file thru sql

sqlplus user/password @file

THis is the simplest and I use all the time for small files.

If you have tens of thousands of rows sql loader is recommended.

Message: Hi,

As suggested by gurus there are multiple ways to load data into oracle .

the simple and straight forward one's

use any application development tools like TOAD ( i used to prefer this when was pretty new to DBA stuff).

Use MS-Access as interface between oracle and excel . for this you need to create your excel in the same order as your table structure. then once you configured DSN all you need to do is link the table to Access copy your data from excel and save .

PS : this tricks is not optimal if you want to load huge amount of data . for large data loads use SQL Loader

Regds,
Naveen

Message: If you want to make something fancy as a button in Excel, which would insert data into Oracle when you push it, I would recommend using Oracle Objects for OLE (OO4O).
The nice thing about OLE, is that you can call stored procedures/functions in the macro for the more advanced stuff, passing data through parameters.
If you Google on e.g. "OLE Oracle Excel" you can find some examples on the web.
