Sorry our primary database file structure is different from stdby, we used db_file_name_convert in the init.ora, it look like this:

*.db_file_multiblock_read_count=16
*.db_file_name_convert='+OT06_DATA/OT06TSG001/','+RT06_DATA/RT06/','+RECO/OT06TSG001','+RECO/RT06'
*.db_files=2000
*.db_name='OT06'
*.db_recovery_file_dest='+RECO'
************************************************************************
Is there any thing wrong in this parameter.

I tried this parameter before for cloning using rman backup. This din't work.

What exactly must be done? for db_file_name_convert to work.

Even in this case i think this is the problem its not converting the location and the logical halts.

help me out.....

let me know if you have any questions.

Message: Hi

We are using RAC, ASM, OMF and Data Guard physical standby.
Since standby_file_management has been set to AUTO
a) when we add a datafile, it is automatically added in the diskgroup defined by the instance initialization parameter db_create_file_dest
b) when we drop a datafile (done for testing purposes) it is automatically dropped on the standby as well.

we don't use db_file_name_convert but if we would use it we would use the *.db_file_name_convert='+OT06_DATA','+RT06_DATA' syntax
this example assumes your diskgroup +OT06_DATA is there where your primary database files are where as +RT06_DATA is where your standby database files are. Only mention the diskgroups and have ASM/OMF done the rest for you.

Also when I add a datafile I take fully benefit from OMF

create tablespace coconut datafile size 9G;

alter tablespace coconut add datafile size 9G;

It seems to me there is something wrong with your

create tablespace INVACC200740 logging datafile '+OT06_DATA' size 10M

Check out Metalink Performing duplicate database with ASM/OMF/RMAN Doc ID: Note:340848.1

It discusses the use of db_file_name_convert with ASM

So in short
correct the instance initialization parameters : db_create_file_dest, db_file_name_convert
and correct your datafile creation syntax

Guy

Message: Thanks alot Lambregts,
on logical standby:
show parameter db_create_file_dest
db_create_file_dest string +RT06_DATA

on primary:
show parameter db_create_file_dest
db_create_file_dest string +OT06_DATA

so is there something wrong with db_file_name_convert parameter.

Do you think it should be:
*.db_file_name_convert='+OT06_DATA','+RT06_DATA'

current settings in init.ora:
db_file_name_convert string +OT06_DATA/OT06TSG001/, +RT06_DATA/RT06/, +RECO/OT06TSG001,
+RECO/RT06

Awaiting for your reply,

Thanks in advance.

Message: Hi,

Yes, If you want to take full benefit of ASM and OMF

I recommend

1.*.db_file_name_convert='+OT06_DATA','+RT06_DATA'

2. use the sql syntax I suggested above

your datafiles will be created on your primary in

+OT06_DATA/<db_unique_name>/datafiles/(omf_file_name)

and on your standby

+RT06_DATA/<db_unique_name>/datafiles/(omf_file_name)

As I' ve written above we use also ASm/OMF and I like it, I don' t care about the somewhat odd OMF names.

I create my tablespaces with

create tablespace xyz datafile size nG;

I add datafiles with

alter tablespace xyz add datafile size nG;

I recover - if needed with -

RMAN >restore datafile n;

(where n is the file# from v$datafile)

Similar from redo logs, I have a value for db_create_online_log_dest_1 and db_create_online_log_dest_2

and I create online logs with

alter database add logfile group x thread y size n;

Regards
Guy
