Message: Hi,

anyone with RESTRICTED SESSION privilege can connect to the database after you put system in restricted session mode (by default SYS and anyone with DBA role).

Connect to database with sys and disable restricted session mode:

SQL> alter system disable restricted session;

ales

Message: Hi Syed,

what are you saying doesn't make sense to me. You're suggesting that after you changed instance to restricted session mode you're no allowed to connect as sys anymore. Can't be. You're obviously trying to connect to database with non-SYS account (precisely the account without RESTRICTED SESSION privilege) and this is of course not possible - that's why we have restricted session privilege.

Let's do an exercise:

SQL> show release
release 1002000200

SQL> connect / as sysdba
Connected.

SQL> select grantee, privilege from dba_sys_privs where privilege='RESTRICTED SESSION';

GRANTEE PRIVILEGE
------------------------------ ----------------------------------------
DBA RESTRICTED SESSION
SYS RESTRICTED SESSION

Let's revoke restricted session privilege from dba and sys...

SQL> revoke restricted session from dba;

Revoke succeeded.

SQL> revoke restricted session from sys;

Revoke succeeded.

SQL> select grantee, privilege from dba_sys_privs where privilege='RESTRICTED SESSION';

no rows selected

Enable restricted session

SQL> alter system enable restricted session;

System altered.

Let's try to connect as ordinary dba

SQL> connect kavsek/ales
ERROR:
ORA-01035: ORACLE only available to users with RESTRICTED SESSION privilege

Warning: You are no longer connected to ORACLE.

As expected, I'm not allowed to connect, now I'm disconnected from Oralce

Let's try to connect as sysdba....

SQL> connect kavsek as sysdba
Enter password:
Connected.
SQL>

As you can see SYS is special, even after I revoked the restricted session privilege from this account I
can still connect.

Now, please show me what you're doing as I showed you.

Regards,
ales
