Message: the user with which you are creating the database should (ideally) be the same user who is the owner of the binaries if not .. at atleast in the same group.
ie. you would have a group dba in which user oracle might be owner of the binaries, incase owner of the database is someone other than Oracle ensure that
1. the new user belongs to the dba group
2. the permission on all the binaries is set so that they are all executable by the group

Message: Hi,

If your user is on dba group, did you
set ORACLE_SID to your new DB
have a valid init$ORACLE_SID.ora file (parameter db_name...)
sqlplus "/ as sysdba"
and then startup the database ?

Regards
Jean-Luc

Message: Prakash,
Are you using the proper environment file for second one. It looks like , you are trying to start the second database using environment file of first database. If this is the case the you need to create a password file and modify the init.ora parameter for remote_login_passwordfile.
-------------------------
1. Create a password file (example)
orapwd file=/u01/sc4prdb/8.1.7/dbs/orapw password=xxxxx entries=10
2. Set the init.ora
remote_login_passwordfile=EXCLUSIVE
remote_dependencies_mode=signature
3. Verify
select * from V$PWFILE_USERS

grant dba to system (if you are using system to start )
grant sysdba to system (if you are using system to start )

------------------
This steps are required for rman to take cold backup. Otherwise database never gets shutdown due to insufficient priv.

Message: I guess you have a problem with your environment (PATH, ORACLE_SID, TNS_ADMIN).
I'm not sure about the previous answer about the file name for orapw,I read the name was orapw+$ORACLE_SID; but if your database can start "alone", it is not the origin.

try using dbenv before starting your 2nd DB to validate your environment.
