Os info: NA
Oracle info: 18c
Message: When you install an Oracle12c database, you have the option of choosing a normal (standalone) database or a pluggable (container) database. My question is: is this option still available in version 18c? or are they forcing you to move to pluggable database all together?

Message: Hi,

a fresh (~3h old;-) info from Oracle representative is that "normal" standalone will definitely still exist in 18c on premise (and very likely in 19c as well).

Bu considering 18c PDB snapshoting new feature alone, I think going for a Single tenant replacement for standalone db will likely prevail.

Regards,
Ales

You find the following comment under 2.3.2.1 DBCA Creation Mode Window

Create as Container database: Enable this option to create the database as a multitenant container database (CDB) that can support zero, one, or many user-created pluggable databases (PDBs).

Which indicates to me that it is still an option not create non-CDBs.

Message: Hello Benny,

you already know, but for other readers: from MOS community forum https://community.oracle.com/thread/4145063 I copy an excerpt of the answer of Yunus (Oracle Global Support):
   Per Oracle Documentation

https://docs.oracle.com/en/database/oracle/oracle-database/18/upgrd/deprecated-features-oracle-database-12c-r2.html#GUID…
Deprecation of Non-CDB Architecture
The non-CDB architecture was deprecated in Oracle Database 12c. It can be desupported and unavailable in a release after Oracle Database 19c .
Oracle recommends use of the CDB architecture.

Best regards,

Bruno Vroman.
