Os info: Oracle Linux 6.7
Oracle info: 12.1.0.2
Message: Dear all,

OUR FRA Destination size is 450 GB
We want to reduce archive dest size to 180 GB

We scheduled a shell script to delete archived logs on Standby side once FRA reached 85%

We are planning to disable that script
Better we want to delete archive logs next day by RMAN. I meant to say

Today's date is: SEP 30
Whatever archives are generated at Standby on 30 SEPTEMBER, the next day i.e on OCT 1st, archive logs must be deleted from Standby site

Is it O.K ?

RMAN> delete noprompt archivelog until time 'sysdate -1';

Please update

Message: Depends on what you mean by OK and how you do your backups.

If you are using RMAN to do your backups then configure archive retention policy and let RMAN do the work.

https://docs.oracle.com/database/121/BRADV/rcmconfb.htm#BRADV89438

Configuring the Backup Retention Policy

https://docs.oracle.com/database/121/RCMRF/rcmsynta009.htm#RCMRF113

Then you can do your backup plus archivelog

BACKUP DATABASE PLUS ARCHIVELOG DELETE ALL INPUT;

However, if you just want to know if your command will work.

https://docs.oracle.com/database/121/RCMRF/rcmsubcl002.htm#GUID-DDF929FF-796B-4AD6-AE58-F831CAFC7703__BABJGBFG

It should be fine.....but as always test it in a test envrionment first...and make sure you backup the archivelogs first.

Regards
Tim
