Message: Hello Saumya,

as you state the issue is not due to "as sysdba" but simply at the fact that you try to connect without providing "@xxx"

Check your environment, maybe there is a variable TWO_TASK that is defined (and provides a default -but wrong- value for the destination. unset TWO_TASK if it is set.

Then check the value of ORACLE_SID in your environment. Check if it matches the instance that you want to connect to (as you are in RAC, you have maybe forgotten the suffix "_1" or "_2"?

HTH,

Bruno Vroman.

Message: Hi Bruno ,

Thanks for your reply..

export ORACLE_SID=DB_NAME
sqlplus / as sysdba not working

export ORACLE_SID=DB_NAME
sqlplus user/pwd not working

export ORACLE_SID=DB_NAME
sqlplus user/pwd@DB_NAME working

No Error in alert.log , I am unable to find TWO_TASK Variable.

Message: Hi Saumya,

try the following:
 env | grep ORACLE
 env | grep TWO_TASK
 tnsping DB_NAME
this last one will "reveal" the location of the tnsnames.ora file; go there and provide also the entry DB_NAME=...

Remark: "doesn't work" or "hanging": hanging "forever" (for example more than one night?)

Can you also check the instances running on the server:
ps -eaf | grep pmon

Best regards,

Bruno

Message: Hi Bruno ,

The Database is running perfectly fine.
We found the root cause of the issue.
actually There was a monitoring tool running on the AIX Server. We disabled the tool and after that I found sqlplus sysdba is working fine. It seems the tool was blocking.

I have never thought that a monitoring tool on the Server will block the sqlplus access. But now issue Resolved.

Thanks Bruno for your Prompt reply.

Thanks
Saumya
