Os info: Linux x86 64bit
Oracle info: all
Error info: n/a
Message: Hi,

Can someone explain me the below result returned by Linux top:

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
28894 oracle 20 0 55.548g 292264 285188 R 100.0 0.2 0:10.25 oracle_28894_bg
31895 oracle 20 0 55.569g 2.250g 2.236g R 99.3 1.8 11:41.12 oracle_31895_bg
22731 oracle 20 0 55.684g 3.695g 3.575g R 89.7 2.9 285:10.27 oracle_22731_bg
27918 oracle 20 0 55.548g 1.145g 1.139g R 70.9 0.9 0:06.00 oracle_27918_bg
2859 oracle 20 0 55.693g 6.852g 6.736g S 61.3 5.4 12395:50 ora_mmon_bgh1pc
27930 oracle 20 0 55.562g 1.124g 1.118g S 15.6 0.9 0:04.90 oracle_27930_bg
26351 oracle 20 0 55.550g 1.961g 1.954g S 12.6 1.6 1:06.28 oracle_26351_bg

I would expect the CPU usage runs from 0 -> 100%, for all the CPU involved. I mean here, all the cores.
But, if I cound all the CPU usages for each PID I come to a value much higher than 100%.

In this situation, of that server, I have:

CPU(s): 8
On-line CPU(s) list: 0-7
Thread(s) per core: 1
Core(s) per socket: 8

Thanks by advance for any explanation.

Kind Regards

On your system you can expect to see CPU % from 0 - 800% (8 cores, single threaded).
