Oracle info: oracle 12.2.0.1
Message: Hi,

facing issue while configuring oracle failsafe setup.

Installed both oracle failsafe 4.2 and oracle 12.2.0.1 with latest patches on node 1 and node 2.

post installation, created database in node 1.

when i try to open oracle failsafe and connect to cluster, it throws an error that it cannot connect to cluster, unable to find ORACLE MSCS services.

I checkedservices.msc, and found that oracle fail safe service is not running on node 1.

But oracle fail safe service is running on node 2.

tried to start the service but it fails to start by showing below alert.

oracle failsafe service on local computer started and then stopped. some services stopped automatically if they are not in use by other services.

I have set oracle fail-safe path and rebooted the server, but still the issue persists.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

thanks

Message: Hi Ben,

I am using Failsafe too, on Oracle 12.1.0.2 and OFS 4.1.1 with the latest patch. I have not yet used your version, but it should be the same.
What I know about OFS :
- if you are not sure about the installation, then deinstall and reinstall.
- once you have installed OFS on one node, it may ask to reboot. You will have to reboot after installation on node 2 and then complete the installation just after the reboot by launching OFS. It should automatically check the cluster configuration. If not ? Reinstall ...
- you must have a dedicate user to run failsafe or to install a database on it, but as I can recall, it may need to have admin rights on the server (only the server).
Try this and tell us if you have any news.
Regards,
Joel

Message: Hi Joel,

Thank you for your suggestions.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled it, rebooted the nodes in order as mentioned.

But still the oracle fail safe service is not running in node 1, but it is running on node 2.

After reinstallation I'm able to see the oracle resources from failover cluster end which used to show as unknown resources before.

Oracle Listener
Oracle Database

Both the nodes are installed by the same domain administrator user.

I have followed the below doc to installed OFS
https://support.oracle.com/epmos/faces/SearchDocDisplay?_adf.ctrl-state=6s5rudii7_4&_afrLoop=274867490513811

And below doc to create groups in failover cluster

I think that the Failsafe Service is running on the node selected by the quorum and not on both nodes (as I can recall). You can run failsafe on both nodes right ? And you have checked the cluster configuration prior to install or mount any database ?

Message: Hi Joël,

As of now, oracle failsafe is not running on node 1.
db is in node 1.
oracle failsafe service is running in node 2.

I checked in
Event viewer->application log
after trying to start the failsafe service.

it registered an error

Oracle Fail Safe failed to locate \OraBin folder, error number 10622 (0x0000297E)

I have the path already set for oracle failsafe.

Message: Hi Ben,

Don't try to run the service on both nodes. Just try to open the application (OFS) and do the cluster testing part).

Message: Hi Joel,

I want to start the service in node 1, since db is installed there.. and it has to start automatic in services.msc

If the service is not running and I open OFS to connect to cluster I get an error

Unable to connect to Oracle Services for MSCS. Make sure that the cluster alias is correct and that Oracle Services for MSCS is correctly installed and running on that cluster.

Message: Hi Joel,

I finally raised an oracle SR and they suggested to check with the registry paths.

recently I had installed TFA analyzer due to which there was a registry or path mismatch.

I ran the below command

FsSvr.exe /noservice

and it throwed an error that it couldn't identify the path specified.

checked if the registry keys had the oracle home key created by running below command

> reg query "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Oracle" /s > C:\temp\RegOra_NodeA.txt

to check the registry keys info in a file

The TraceFileAnalyzer home does not contain ORACLE_HOME or ORACLE_HOME_NAME as seen below

AUTO_RUN REG_SZ true
TFA_HOME REG_SZ C:\oracle.ahf\tfa
AUTO_START REG_SZ true

added the below 2 keys with the values

"ORACLE_HOME"="C:\\oracle.ahf\\tfa"
"ORACLE_HOME_NAME"="OraDB12Home3"

And started the oracle failsafe service.

Was able to add the database resource.

Thanks for your help.
