Hi,
I would like to install oracle 12.2 on Red Hat linux 8.2, although I know it is officially not supported by oracle (although oracle 12.1 was).
Reasons:
* this system has to live 5 years, security patches for linux 7 end on 06/2024,
* app used is only certified with oracle 12.2 for now, so plan would be to upgrade to oracle 19 when app will be certified.
I installed a lot of packages and found a procedure (https://fcldacl.blogspot.com/2019/09/como-instalar-oracle-database-12c.html, seems I am not the only one).
I guess I have to change /etc/redhat-release, can someone tell me what has to be put in it?
Thanks

Hi Alain,
I don't think you need to mess with /etc/redhat-release. Oracle is apparently using environment variable:
export CV_ASSUME_DISTID=OL7
Mike Dietrich yesterday posted this:
https://mikedietrichde.com/2020/10/13/oracle-database-12-1-0-2-certified-on-oracle-linux-8-and-rhel8/
It's puzzling to me why Oracle certified 12.1 and not 12.2, there must be some issues that needs to be resolved. We'll have to wait and see what Oracle will publish in the following months.
Imho, it's a mistake to install anything but 19.7 on OL8, but do understand your reasoning. Good luck!
Regards,
