Os info: WINDOWS 2K16 EE
Oracle info: Oracle 19.9
Message: Hi everybody,

First of all (and because I'm on holiday in a few ... minutes :)) I would like to wish you all :
- a great and wonderful Christmas with lots of presents
- to be healthy and well till the end of this year
- a fuc...g great new 2K21 year :)

My question is (let's talk about Oracle a bit :)) : what do you think about Automatic Memory Management.

Personnaly, we are using it since 11g migration (we have migrated from 10.2.0.4 to 11.2.0.4 years ago, then 11.2.0.4 to 12.1.0.2 and finally we are migrating to 19.9) and we never experience any problem. But as I have migrated some database, I notice that the amount of PGA used is slightly increasing. So I wonder whether I should go back to manually managing memory (which is ... not really my "cup of tea" because this would be time consuming) ? Or should I use more memory as memory_max_target (when migrating from 11.2 to 12.1, we were forced to add abit more memory) ? What would you do ?

Best Regards and be safe :)

Joel

Message: Hello Joël,

(still using 12.1) I don't use MEMORY_TARGET but "only" SGA_TARGET and I give a max size for PGA, I'm happy like this. Yes, when moving from 11g to 12c the databases consume quite some additional memory, I guess it is the same for 19c...

But the main thing I wan to say now is (with some advance):
SET HEA ON

SET COLSEP ''
SELECT MAX( CASE WHEN x = 1 THEN CHR( y ) END ) "H"
, MAX( CASE WHEN x = 2 THEN CHR( y ) END ) "a"
, MAX( CASE WHEN x = 3 THEN CHR( y ) END ) "p"
, MAX( CASE WHEN x = 4 THEN CHR( y ) END ) "p"
, MAX( CASE WHEN x = 5 THEN CHR( y ) END ) "y"
, MAX( CASE WHEN x = 6 THEN CHR( y ) END ) " "
, MAX( CASE WHEN x = 7 THEN CHR( y ) END ) "w"
, MAX( CASE WHEN x = 8 THEN CHR( y ) END ) "h"
, MAX( CASE WHEN x = 9 THEN CHR( y ) END ) "a"
, MAX( CASE WHEN x = 10 THEN CHR( y ) END ) "t"
, ' ' "?"
FROM ( SELECT x, ((((((((((- 113 / 5184)*x
+ 21727 / 20160)*x
- 689023 / 30240)*x
+ 387479 / 1440)*x
- 16807459 / 8640)*x
+ 25543669 / 2880)*x
-163950719 / 6480)*x
+ 72417257 / 1680)*x
- 49444729 / 1260)*x
+143380001 / 10000) y
FROM ( SELECT LEVEL x
FROM dual
CONNECT BY LEVEL <= 10 )
)
;
;-)
